At a time of social unrest in the United States, the Daniel Boone School Board unanimously agreed on Jan. 26 a resolution that would honor and recognize three local police forces on May 11, during National Police Recognition Week.

The resolution honored the Amity Township Police Department, the Birdsboro Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police, “which serve the Daniel Boone Area School District-our students, staff, and community-with professionalism, honor, and distinction.”

“As a citizen, I don’t like what I’m seeing happening around the country,” said Martino on Jan. 12 about the board’s motivation for the resolution.

“The local law enforcement is the reason we can sleep at night.”

“We want to recognize the good things the police are doing.”

The resolution states that “law enforcement officers routinely and regularly place themselves into harm’s way to protect and defend our communities.. The Daniel Boone Area Board of School Directors recognizes the necessity of rule of law and the essential role that local law enforcement plays in the functioning of a just society.”

“The Daniel Boone Area Board of School Directors hereby expresses its thanks and appreciation to the Amity Township Police Department, the Birdsboro Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police for their courageous service protecting our students, staff, and community..”
