From Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16, the doors of the Village Library of Morgantown were open to all shoppers as they held their Bi-Annual Used Book Sale, offering thousands of gently used items. The money raised at the sale will assist the library in purchasing new materials for their collection. In addition, there was a bake sale featuring brownies, breads, cakes, cookies, and other tasty treats.
For the first time, there were additional fundraising items for sale. Several local children assisted in raising money for their library. Jacob Donahue made and sold Squeeze-Ums, home-made stress-relief balls that are great for tired or arthritic hands. Kids could also enjoy playing with these squishy, stretchy stress balls which are available in a wide range of colors. Sophia and Tabitha Donahue sold their home-made bookmarks decorated with everything from stickers to seashells. A wide variety ensured a bookmark for everyone to enjoy. The children donated half of the money earned to the library.
Jacob, Sophia and Tabitha appreciate all that the library has done for them and enjoy looking for ways to give back to the library, as there are so many opportunities at the Village Library from which they have benefited. They have enjoyed the Storytimes on Wednesday and Thursday that Miss Pam, the children’s librarian, has done over the years. The Donahue’s also enjoy attending the Family Movie Nights held at the library and sampling the free popcorn. Finally, the Lego Club proved to be a great time to play with their friends, and get to know new friends.
The children’s mother, Carol Donahue, desires to instill in them a love for reading, as well as the value of volunteering, and thinking of others. The children have participated in volunteering at the monthly book sorting in preparation of the book sales, baking items for the bake sale, assisting with yard work and now using their creativity to try to help the library.
