Amity >> Three armed robberies in Amity in as many weeks are an “anomaly,” said Police Chief Kent Shuebrook, who added the crimes are not necessarily connected.

Police believe the most recent of the three – at The Cottages motel on May 11 – is not connected to armed robberies May 3 and April 30.

There isn’t conclusive evidence that the first two robberies are connected, either, though there are some consistencies in the descriptions of the suspects, Shuebrook said.

“There are some similarities. The most consistent is the height of the suspects in those first two. They are both a shorter male. There are a lot of short males around. Is that a significant clue? Well, it gives you a place to look,” he said.

Amity Detective Jeffrey Smith is actively investigating all three incidents.

On May 11, a woman was robbed at The Cottages off of Route 422, when a man forced his way into her room.

On Sunday, May 3, a 74-year-old man was robbed at the National Penn Bank near route 422 and Old Swede Road.

On Thursday, April 30, a suspect who also covered his face from the nose down, robbed the Speedway convenience store at knife-point.

“You get these anomalies. We would love to be able to connect the dots and bring multiple cases down to one person,” Shuebrook said. “But that’s more likely to happen with burglaries.”
