The Hamburg Post Office recently took some time to recognize one of their own for his 35 years of service. Stanley R. Henne Jr., was honored during a brief presentation with the flag that had been flying at the post office.

“The National Association of Letter Carriers bestows this honor upon you where they fly a flag at the office and then they take it down and they present it to you,” said Julie Weiser, Postmaster at the Hamburg Post Office.

Henne retired on October 1, 2014 and this was the second time within the fiscal year that such an honor was given as Scott Reichard retired after 38 years earlier.

“It’s that important to us. You guys are still important to us,” said Weiser, as the current and past staff gathered in the mailroom. “That’s why when we have something, it’s not a function or an honor until everybody is together.”

The group made its way outside where the flag was taken down and folded before being presented to Henne.

“On behalf of the National Association of Letter Carriers, I’d like to present this flag to you in recognition of your 35 years as a letter carrier,” said Judy Snitzer, Union Steward of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Henne posed for photos with the flag and former peers before the group headed back inside where Henne’s flag was placed in a special case.
