On Saturday, May 16, the Kutztown Area High School Class of 2017 hosted the first annual “Running of the Cougars” 5K Race and Fun Walk.

Runners ran a course that circled the property of the school district that included a combination of challenges including hills, grass, gravel, and asphalt sections. Runners were also awarded prizes for first place finishes in various age groups. Anson Weidner, a senior at Kutztown Area High School, finished first overall with a time of 17:53.

The sophomore class also welcomed two elementary school girls to support to “Girls on the Run”, a program that encourages self-esteem and healthy lifestyle choices through running.

The event was a great success, and the Class of 2017 thanks all participants and event sponsors. They are also looking forward to next year’s “Running of the Cougars” event.
