25 Years AgoJune 6, 1990 >> Tracy Stoudt, of Shoemakersville graduated from College Misericodia and was awarded a B.S. degree in nursing. A graduate of Hamburg Area High School, Tracy is the daughter of Richard and Cynthia Wilkins, Shoemakersville.
Pamela A. Dietrich, Hamburg Class of 1986, graduated summa cum laude from Shippensburg University on May 12 with a B.S. in business administration degree in accounting and business information systems.
Hamburg Mayor John Swanger presented a Hamburg Sesquicentennial mug to Goran Olsson, who is a district police inspector in his home country of Sweden. Olsson was visiting the Hamburg and Reading Police Departments, and planned to stop in Reading to visit his brother and sister in law, the former Bonnie Smith of Hamburg.
50 Years AgoJune 3, 1965 >> Graduation exercises for the 69 boys and 77 girls comprising Hamburg Area High School’s Class of 1965 will be held on Monday at 8 pm. Woodrow W. Werley president of the joint board of education, and John W. Ebling, supervising principal, will present the diplomas to the graduates. Awards will be given by Earl S. Wagner, high school principal, and Daniel B. Lamm, assistant supervising principal.
Miss Elese E. Springer, a graduate of Hamburg High School and Kutztown State College where she majored in Social Studies, is leaving on June 15 for Colorado to take part in an archeological dig being conducted by the Trinidad State Jr. College.
Joseph M.A. Nelabovige, of Hamburg R2 is among more than 4,000 University of Maryland candidates for law degrees on Saturday.

75 Years AgoMay 30, 1940 >> Thomas F. Confer, assistant treasurer and trust officer of the Hamburg Savings and Trust Company, will leave June 14 for Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey to the Graduate School of Banking to continue advanced study in banking.
All members of Union Fire Company No1 who plan to participate with the local unit in the parade on June 15, during the Leesport Centennial celebration are requested to wear uniforms if they possess them, or dark trousers and white shirts and dark ties.

Early discovery of the blaze and prompt action by Union Fire Company No 1 prevented a fire in the molding room of the Confer-Smith Foundry from assuming serous proportions early Monday morning. It is estimated that damages to the building and its equipment may total $5,000.00 until everything is put back in working order.

100 Years AgoJune 3, 1915 >> The June meeting of the board of Education was held Tuesday evening. Routine business was transacted and bills amounting to $225.97 ordered to be paid. A feature of the meeting was the unanimous re-election of Professor John N. Land as principal of the schools at a salary of $125.00 per month.
So far this week, the Hahn Motor Truck & Wagon Company secured orders for three auto trucks.
Quite an excitement was created last Friday afternoon when Constable Lewars began a “man-hunt” in town for four gypsy women who had been flim-flamming some of our people. The male members of the gang also played their part by holding up several people along the pike in Port Clinton, and demanding money.
