A tractor trailer truck struck a disabled U.S. Postal Service box truck, sending the box truck down an embankment off Interstate 78 in Greenwich Township early morning on June 9.

A box truck hauling U.S. Postal Mail broke down in the eastbound lane of I-78 at mile marker 39.3 in Greenwich Township at about 5:30 a.m.

According to a State Police report, this stretch of highway has little or no shoulder. The driver of the box truck, Roberto Barrera, 41, New Jersey, did not place his three orange triangles on the roadway as required.

A 2015 Freightliner Tractor Trailer, driven by Manjinder Singh, 22, Washington State, was unable to slow down for the disabled truck and struck the U.S. Postal Mail box truck from behind.

As a result, the mail truck was pushed through the guardrail and down an embankment.

Barrera sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

The tractor trailer truck sustained disabling damage and jack-knifed, blocking both eastbound lanes. Singh was not injured.

I-78 eastbound was shut down for several hours. Traffic was detoured.
