Tractor pulls, the smell of freshly made food, noises from animals mixing with the delighted sounds of children spinning on rides and plenty of entertainment filled the fairgrounds in Kempton for the 61st annual Kempton Country Fair. Even with the heat, attendees “harvested the fun” during the three nights of the fair from Thursday, June 11 to June 13.
This year’s fair was a week earlier compared to previous years in hopes of avoiding conflicting with other area fairs that have historically occurred during the same week.
Thursday night kicked off the fair with the opening ceremonies followed by the popular tractor pulls which continued Friday night. The Miss Kempton Fair contest also began on Thursday night with the crowing of the new Miss Kempton Fair on Saturday. The final day of the fair also featured the corn cob toss, frog jumping contest, water balloon toss, pedal tractor pulls, street stock 4×4 drags, Lions eye screening and the always popular line dancing. Judging took place throughout the fair along with entertainment and musical acts on the stage. Featured Friday night were the annual fireworks.
Vendors were set up in the exhibit hall as well as throughout the midway among the rides. New this year to the fair was the majestic Ferris wheel.
After visiting the vendors, looking at this year’s contest entries and spending time on the rides and at the games, attendees were able to take a walk through the barn and say a friendly hello to the cows, pigs, goats and sheep in the barn area.
Started 61 years ago, the mission of the fair is to support agricultural, educational, civic and cultural activities for the community and surrounding area. Kempton Country Fair Inc. was formed in 1999 and is a nonprofit 501c3 organization.
