July fourth is quickly approaching and Independence Day Ltd. is working hard to prepare.

To date, Independence Day Ltd. has raised $19,387 of the $32,709 it needs to organize the festivities planned for the Fourth of July. That number includes costs for a fireworks display along with two days of festivities to celebrate the theme of Pottstown’s Bicentennial.

With just under two weeks to raise the $13,322 needed, Independence Day Ltd. has continued to fundraise in a variety of ways so that Pottstown can have a “top notch” fireworks display.

“We’re going to have two hats this year. The usual hat for Pottstown Fourth of July and a hat for the bicentennial,” said Marcia Levengood, co-chairperson for Independence Day Ltd., of one of their fundraisers. “We will not be releasing the design for those hats until we have them and they are scheduled to arrive the last week of June.”

In addition to the Fourth of July hats, the group has also planned a Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast at Applebee’s, 833 N. State St., for today. The breakfast will be hosted from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and costs $7 per person and $3 for children under 10.

The group is also planning to have a table at the Pottstown Rumble scheduled for Thursday, June 25, to Sunday, June 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as well as a table at the Annual Iron Horse Bike Show on June 27 between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

For those who are unable to attend the breakfast, donations can always be made on Independence Day Ltd.’s website, www.Pottstown4thofjuly.org. Donations made online are processed through PayPal. Donations can also be made directly into the group’s donation account through Citadel, Diamond Credit Union, First Niagra, Fulton Bank, Malvern Federal Savings, National Penn Bank, PNC, Superior Federal Credit Union, Susquehanna Bank, Tri-County Federal Credit Union, Victory Bank and Wells Fargo.

In addition, personal checks made out to Independence Day Ltd. and mailed to PO Box 199, Pottstown are also accepted. Be sure to note which homecoming queen you want to donate to on the memo line.

Events planned for July 3 include a magic show, baby contest, an introduction of the parade grand marshal, the crowning of the Bicentennial Homecoming Queen and the arrival of the Colebrookdale Railroad Star Spangled Express. Festivities continue on July 4 with a pancake breakfast, a 5K run, the Fourth of July parade and, of course, the fireworks scheduled for 10 p.m.

A full schedule for the events is available on Independence Day Ltd.’s website.
