The co-chairwoman of Boyertown’s Oktoberfest committee has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center as its volunteer of the year. Former Building a Better Boyertown board member Shannon Anthony was presented with her award at the annual Townie Awards Gala June 17.

In 2013, Anthony logged an average of 40 hours volunteering per week from January to October. As co-chairwoman of the Oktoberfest committee, serving with her husband Bill, Anthony has expanded the event to two days and created new aspects of the event. She has also recruited new volunteers and sponsors for the event.

Anthony owns her own business in downtown Boyertown – Serenity Junction – and volunteers at many of the other events throughout the year. She served on the board for Building A Better Boyertown from 2009 until March 2015. While serving on the board she served as promotions chairwoman.

“As a dedicated board member, Shannon has been the key driver to the organizations promotional efforts,” said Adrianne Blank, Main Street Manager of Building A Better Boyertown.

The Townie Awards are designed to recognize the commonwealth’s core communities and individuals for creation and implementation of projects, programs and events that exemplify the goals of Pennsylvania Downtown Center ‘s community revitalization mission. Eligible communities consist of Pennsylvania Downtown Center’s nearly 200 member organizations, including Main Street and Elm Street programs, making the Townies a competitive award process each year.
