Summer. What does it mean to you? Warmer days basking in the sun, spending time outside enjoying all the things we can’t do during the winter. Summer means so much, to so many people, in so many ways, but one thing we all love about summer is a good ole fashioned BBQ. Right?
Well then, we welcome to the first annual Pa. BBQ Fest Blues, Brews, BBQ’s brought to you by David Shefter, Local Iron Chef winner, and owner of the Penn Werner Hotel in downtown Wernersville.
David has assembled an awesome line up for the first PA BBQ Fest to be held on Saturday July 11th, from 10am to 5pm at Leesport Farmers Market, and it is sure to please everyone. First, let’s talk about the food. There will be 8, count them eight, Award Winning Pit Masters offering their specialty pulled pork, ribs, chicken wings, turkey legs, and smoked chicken with all the delicious sides. The Pit masters David has assembled for this event include Hillbilly BBQ, It’s Just BBQ, Templin’s Soggy Bottom Grill, Windy Acres BBQ, Johnny and Hons Smoke Haus, Woogies-Wood Fired BBQ, Hometown Restaurant Catering and The Quails Nest Restaurant. Want more? Other foods will be available such as Jambalaya, sausage and chicken gumbo, fresh cut fries, chicken tenders, smoked jalapeno peppers, ice cream, Italian ice and kettle and roasted corn. In addition, there will be plenty of food for the kids like mac n cheese, burgers, hot dogs and more.
Along with the delicious array of foods we will also have specialty vendors offering their unique products such as smoked jerky, BBQ rubs and sauces, hot sauces, mustards, pickles smoked cheeses and spice packs.
The fest would not be complete without a Beer tent (sponsored by the Hamburg Our Town Foundation) to help compliment the delicious array of foods and snacks that will be offered throughout the day. Don’t feel like a beer? That’s fine we will also have local wineries on hand to sample and purchase their fine selections. We will also have music with the talents of Chuck Cahoe, Friar’s Point, The Terrapin Trio and Haley Sheeler to entertain you throughout the day.
As an added bonus to the day, we are holding the first annual PA BBQ Fest in conjunction with the Leesport Farmer’s Market’s Mid Summer Craft Fair. This craft fair offers a variety of vendors and wares but then again you may already know how popular the Leesport Farmers Market Craft Fair’s are in this region. One thing to mention is admission to the fest is free and there is ample parking on the grounds of Leesport Market. So with the 4th of July behind us, and we are in the full swing of summer who wouldn’t want the great taste of a good ole fashioned BBQ fest? Make plans to attend and bring the kids, lawn chairs, and your appetite because this is one fest you do not want to miss this summer. For more information, please visit www.pabbqfest.com.
