The Kutztown Rotary Club announced winners of the Kutztown Bicentennial Decorating Contest.

“It is hoped that the sudden appearance of the flags and bunting around town will help build momentum for the bicentennial events that will be taking place in Kutztown all summer,” said Robert Hobaugh, chair of the decorating contest and member of the bicentennial committee.

Winners were chosen from 29 entrants by a team of 10 Kutztown Rotary Club members based on creativity, festiveness, charm and appropriateness. Judging began on June 27 and results were tallied at the weekly meeting July 1.

“We, at Rotary are happy to see that the contest got things started in Kutztown,” said Hobaugh. “The Mr. Food store on Main Street agreed to set the mood by decorating first. We appreciate their efforts and those of many others who decorated but did not choose to enter the contest.”

First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each of the following categories: residential house on Main Street, residential house elsewhere in the borough, non-residential structure on Main Street and non-residential structure elsewhere in the borough.

Winners will be presented with their prizes at Kutztown Day festivities Aug. 2. Kutztown Day is an annual celebration in the park and this year will represent the culmination of the bicentennial festivities.

First place winners in each category will be awarded a professionally shot, matted and framed 8X10 photograph of their decorated building. Second and third place winners will receive a matted and framed 5X7 photograph.
