Eric Weimer will present a coaching session with several Berks Opera Company young artists on Sunday, July 12, at 3 p.m.

“We are thrilled to bring in international coach and opera conductor, Eric Weimer, to present a master class for our young artists,” said Tamara Black, Executive Director, Berks Opera Company.

A reception will follow the master class. This event will take place at WCR Center for the Arts, 140 N. 5th Street in Reading. It is free and open to the public thanks to the support of an anonymous donor.

Eric Weimer is internationally renowned for his experience with the German opera repertoire, particularly the operas of Richard Wagner, having worked as pianist, coach, and cover conductor at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Canadian Opera Company, and the prestigious Bayreuth Festival in Germany.

Active as well in most other opera repertoires, Mr. Weimer has prepared some 200 productions, collaborating with most of the world’s greatest opera maestri and working closely with virtually all the major singers active on the international opera stage.

His conducting credits include operas at DePaul University as well as performances of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman with Washington National Opera and Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment with Fargo Moorhead Opera. Mr. Weimer is also in demand as a pianist for chamber concerts and vocal recitals and mentors young singers in many of this country’s leading opera training programs.

This is the third master class presented by Berks Opera Company as one facet of its mission to train future opera singers. The 2013 and 2014 classes were taught by Ellen Rissinger, a Berks County native and internationally know opera coach. Like Ms. Rissinger, Eric Weimer grew up in Berks County and returns periodically to visit family members.

The BOC master classes have all been made possible by generous grants from an anonymous donor.
