Although the summer can begin to wind down as August approaches, activity at the park never seems to take a break. With several entertaining performances scheduled for the coming month, folks can continue to enjoy what the parks have to offer.

Kicking off the August portion of our Performing Arts in the Parks program will be The RockaFillys performing on Sunday, Aug. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Gring’s Mill Amphitheater. Accompanied by the RockaFellas, this six piece combo knows how to get you up on your feet. This concert is free, but a $5 parking donation is politely requested.

On Sunday, Aug. 16, The Joshua Davis Loop Group will continue the fun with an exciting performance filled with synthesizing elements of jazz, classical music, Indian classical music, funk and pop. This show is to be held at the Gring’s Mill Amphitheater and will begin at 6 p.m. Again, this event is free, but a $5 parking donated is requested.

Featured at a different location, a special Crow Hill concert and country-style dancing workshop combo will take place on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Hamburg Community Park. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. will be a a country-style dancing workshop with the Louise Lamar Dance Studio. Dance Instructor Dave will teach participants easy country-style steps that they can then showcase during the 6 p.m. Crow Hill concert. Crow Hill, formerly known as Blue Mountain Junction, plays a wide selection of songs with styles ranging from country to bluegrass to gospel. Both features of the Aug. 30 Performing Arts in the Parks program are free and are provided by the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Hamburg Borough.

Also important to mention are our two final installments of our 2015 Kids Summer Series. On Sunday, Aug. 2, beginning at 4 p.m., Phil Witman will present his program “Snakes and Scales and Turtle Tales” in the Gring’s Mill Barn. Children will experience an “up-close encounter” of some of the local reptiles that call our state their home.

The final children’s performance for the summer will be “Share This World” with Jim Rule on Sunday, Aug. 16, in the Gring’s Mill Pavilion. Beginning at 4 p.m., Jim will play his toe-tapping tunes and anthems of inspiration that will make children and grown-ups alike smile and sing along. Both the Aug. 2 and Aug. 16 programs are free, but a $2 parking donation is politely requested.

The Performing Arts in the Parks and Kids Summer Series programs are presented by the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department. The Gring’s Mill Recreation Area is located at 2083 Tulpehocken Road, Wyomissing.

Hamburg Community Park directions: From Route 61 North take the Hamburg exit, a slight right onto South 4th Street. Turn left onto Island Street, to Park Road. Parking is behind the amphitheater, and street parking is also available.
