U.S. Congressman Patrick Meehan, R-7 Dist., announced the award of a $129,926 grant to the Amity Fire Company from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The award, part of FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, will aid the fire department’s purchase of self-contained breathing apparatuses, according to a press release.
“Every day, our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our homes and businesses,” said Congressman Meehan in the release. “These grants help our firefighters purchase the equipment they need to do their jobs safely. They’re an investment in the safety of our communities and of the firefighters that serve them.”
“These state-of-the-art breathing apparatuses provide firefighters with breathable air in a hazardous situation,” said Amity Fire Company Chief Michael Zomolsky in the release. “They help us respond to fires and other incidents safely and better serve the surrounding community. We’re grateful for Congressman Meehan’s support of these grants.”
The release states Meehan has long been a supporter of Assistance to Firefighters Grants, consistently urging his House colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to fully fund the grant program.
