Samuel C. Kulp has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Samuel is the son of Thomas and Deborah Kulp of Kutztown. Sam is a scout in Troop 101 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kutztown.

Sam started scouting as a Tiger Cub in first grade. Throughout his Cub Scout years, he earned 21 belt loops and the American Heritage award. While in Weblos, he earned all 20 activities pins, earning him the “heavy shoulder” award. He also earned the Arrow of Light by the time he crossed over to Boy Scouts.

As a Boy Scout, he earned 38 merit badges, went on 44 scout outings that included overnight stays, camped more than 101 nights, hiked 147 miles and biked 164 miles, 115 of which were done at the PA Grand Canyon. Sam kayaked 50 miles in the Outer Banks and canoed 25 miles down the Delaware River. Sam worked 85 community service hours and has earned the rank of Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow. Sam held the position of Troop Historian for two years.

Samuel’s Eagle Scout project was done at the Lutheran Center near Kutztown University. At the Lutheran Center, Sam replaced all the railroad ties that bordered the parking area. He also removed the grass in part of the backyard and laid stone, giving the students an area for gathering and meeting. Sam redefined flower beds and added new flowers and mulch.

Sam is a junior at Kutztown High School and has been a member of the Kutztown Jazz Band since seventh grade, playing the tenor saxophone. He is involved in the marching band and concert band. Sam also participates in track and field and has been running cross country since middle school. In tenth grade, Sam competed in cross country at Counties and Districts.

Sam’s future plans include attending college and becoming an architect.
