Morgantown Area Business Association hosted its annual picnic at Joanna Furnace in Morgantown on Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m.

“I love that everybody came,” said Roseann Thomas, MABA president. “The food was out of this world. It was great.”

Thomas said the benefits of holding such an event for members is that people get to meet each other, especially for those members who do not normally come to the breakfast meetings.

MABA Treasurer Dave Hinkel was responsible for making much of the food at the picnic. “My wife and I made all of the food and brought it here. It was about three hours.”

Hinkel said the picnic is great. “It’s great getting together with businesses and friends and continuing to build relationships,” he said. “It’s a great event for businesses to get together and learn what they each do and help each other grow their businesses locally.

MABA secretary Luanne “Bunny” Graham, of UGI Utilities, said she enjoys the food and enjoys the fact that it’s a night she doesn’t have to cook.

“I like getting together in a casual setting to chat with people I don’t normally see,” she said. “I like to come and see the people.”

Bev Manwiller of Manwiller Computer Training in Birdsboro, said, “This picnic is great because there’s lots of good food and lots of good desserts and lots of nice people to talk to.”

Members brought a variety of desserts to share from cookies to cakes and everything in between.

John Lauer of Thrivent Financial in Morgantown also enjoyed the picnic.

“I like the picnic because it’s a nice break from the usual breakfast of the Morgantown Area Business Association and it’s just a nice way to get out and mingle with our friends and other business owners and see how we can help each other,” said Lauer.

Thomas encourages businesses to join MABA.

“We’d like to get more members,” said Thomas. “We’ll be looking for a place to have our Christmas event.”

To host a MABA event, the venue must be a MABA member, she said.

“We’re looking for people who do catering things,” she said. “If you join by Oct. 1, you’re in for next year.”

MABA Board Members are Roseann Thomas, president; Louis Ann Mast, VP of membership; Kelly Spica, VP of Events; KC Trost, VP of Marketing; Luanne Graham, Secretary; and David Hinkel, Treasurer.

The next MABA breakfast meeting is 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 at Windmill Family Restaurant in Morgantown. For more information about MABA, visit http://www.maba-online.com/.
