Kutztown University will host the Sesquicentennial 5K Cross Country Run and 150-yard Cub Dash on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. in honor of its 150th year anniversary.

The races will begin and end on the North Campus athletic practice fields adjacent to Luckenbill Road. Official race timing will be conducted by Pretzel City Sports.

Registration for the 5K is $25 for non-students and $15 for KU students. The entry fee includes a t-shirt (guaranteed for all entries post-marked by Sept. 18), rally towel and special giveaways. Entry fees increase to $30 and $20 after Sept. 18 and on race day.

The 150-yard Cub Dash is free and open to all kids 10 and under. Registration is required. T-shirts are not included for Cub Dash participants.

For the 5K run, prizes will be awarded in seven age groups, and to the oldest and youngest finisher. Post-race snacks and refreshments will be provided, and a DJ and Avalanche the Golden Bear, winner of the inaugural State System Mascot Madness competition, will provide entertainment at the start/finish area.

The 5K run will be a cross country race held almost entirely on grass trails. The course is the same figure-eight loop used for the Berks County High School Championships. The route features a mixture of flat sections, rolling hills, beautiful scenery and a flat start/finish area.

Proceeds benefit the KU Sesquicentennial Student Scholarship Fund. The races are a part of the university’s Family Day Weekend festivities and will be held rain or shine.
