Two Kutztown students spent their summer working on their Girl Scout Silver Award. Morgan Kunkel and Erin Randall, ninth grade students at Kutztown Area High School, spent the last few months making fleece knot blankets for the residents of Good Shepherd Home in Allentown.

Erin has been volunteering at the home for almost a year and noticed that most residents like to have a blanket on their laps during the winter months. Most residents in the home are wheelchair-bound. Since all of the residents did not have blankets, she thought it was a way in which she and Morgan could help the residents.

A Silver Award is the highest honor a Cadette Girl Scout can achieve. After having their proposal approved, the girls asked for volunteers in their Kutztown service unit for help. They received donations of fleece from their families, as well as many members of the Kutztown community. The girls then met with their fellow cadette and junior girl scouts and instructed the girls on how to make the blankets. In total, the girls were able to donate 42 lap blankets to Good Shepherd Home.
