Community Evangelical Free Church, 52 South Brick Lane, Elverson, broke ground Aug. 31 for construction of a new building. With almost everyone present holding shovels to participate in ceremonially breaking ground for construction, Pastor Steve Estes reminded them that the construction is not just so the church can have a bigger building. Rather, it is so that the church can “present Biblical truth, build strong relationships and offer practical help” to even more people in Elverson and beyond.
Pastor Estes used the groundbreaking event to challenge the congregation not to focus too much on the physical bricks.
“It’s the people that we’re making room for who are important,” he said. “They’re the living bricks that God will use to build His church, and this new building will give us the space we need in order to receive them.”
The building will include a new sanctuary, as well as multi-use space for classes, receptions, and other church functions. The existing space will be renovated for youth activities, as well as reconfiguring some of the current space to better serve children and provide administrative office space. Regular worship services and functions will continue at CEFC throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in late 2016 or early 2017.
“We’re excited to see how God is enabling us to build,” said Pastor Estes. “Our hope is that this expanded building will allow us to better share the love of Jesus Christ throughout the greater Elverson area.”
