Fake IRS calls lead to investigation

Hamburg Police reported that a fraud was investigated in the Hamburg Borough limits on Aug. 28. This stems from a borough resident getting suspicious phone calls from people claiming to be from the IRS. This has been an ongoing issue and has affected several residents in the borough and across the nation.

The Hamburg Police remind the public that these scams are difficult to investigate. Police are urging residents to never give out personal or private information over the phone. Residents are also urged to never send money to an unknown source. This protects the general public from losses and further helps the police and other investigating agencies in their investigation.

For more information about this issue, the IRS has an official webpage dedicated to this topic. Please reference www.irs.gov/uac/Tax-Scams-Consumer-Alerts.
