As the twirling season concludes two twirlers end their season with many awards. During the week of July 21 both Emelia Adam, seventh grade student in the Hamburg Area School District and her younger sister, Kadryn Adam, a first grade student, traveled to South Bend Indiana to compete in America Youth on Parade Baton National Competition.

This is a twirling event like no other. The best twirlers from the United States and around the world unite to compete for a series of National and World Open championships. It is the World Series of baton twirling. Both girls are coached by Anna Bryant and Casey Bryant from Maryland.

As the excitement grew throughout the week the girls experienced even more stress than usual. Their grandmother, who attends all of the girls twirling competitions, fell from the bleachers and was hospitalized in the middle of the week. Staying focused was the goal to end the week. It was a challenge but both proved to competitive athletes.

Emelia was focused and twirled as an 11 year old. She placed in the top 10 in several events even with the stressful situation her family was experiencing. She began the competition by twirling the Grand National Competition which she qualified for during Pennsylvania State Competition earlier in spring. In addition she placed 7th in Advance Solo, 9th in Intermediate Strut, 2nd in Advance Flag Baton, 10th in 2-Baton, 4th in All-American Girl Modeling, and 4th in Show Twirl. She also placed 11th in her first time Duet with her little sister Kadryn. Kadryn wowed the judges into a 9th place finish in her Novice Flag Baton earning her first medal ever at the America Youth on Parade Baton National Competition.

Although the stress was very high the girls did an awesome job. Grandma is also on the mend and is anxious for the next twirling season.

Two weeks after America Youth on Parade Baton National Competition, the girls were fortunate to qualify for AAU Jr. Olympics in Virginia Beach individually and with their team, Class Act Twirlers. Both girls really enjoyed this experience with the two things they love most: twirling and beach! Emelia won several gold medals and two silver ones. She became this year’s Advance All Around AAU Majorette and brought home a back pack for school along with her medal. In addition, she also took gold in the following events: Intermediate X Strut, Intermediate Straightline Strut, Intermediate Parade Majorette, Intermediate 2 Baton, Advance One Baton, and her team won two gold medals. She earned silver in her Show Twirl and Freestyle routines. Kadryn earned a bronze medal in her Basic Strut Marching.

Both events were on the national level and as you can see both girls did an awesome job representing Hamburg, Pennsylvania. They are very anxious for the next twirling season to begin later this year.
