The Pennsylvania Dutch Essay contest was held this summer at the Kutztown Folk Festival.

Dr. William Donner of Kutztown University runs the essay contest.

Emily Stemmler, who was a KU Professional Semester student in my fifth grade class, introduced the essay contest to my class and taught them how to develop the essay. Five students entered: Jacob Graff, Kelly Leiby, Chase Meyer, Hayden Miller-Schaeffer, and Emma Troutman.

Kelly Leiby wrote the winning essay and won a prize of $50. All other students received Folk Festival T shirts.

Denice Ruth is a fifth grade teacher at Kutztown Elementary School.
