“Pumpkins, Flowers and Sheep Oh My!” – some of the biggest pumpkins you may ever see, that is.
Last year the Oley Community Fair introduced the Pumpkin Patch Weigh Off, and the contest will be kicking things off again this year.
The Second Annual Pumpkin Patch Weigh Off will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Stage Pavilion. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
This year the weight off have been split into two divisions, adult and youth. In each division, contestants will compete for the top 6 places with prizes ranging from $25 to $500 for adults; $25 to $200 for youth. Also, one pumpkin will be named “nicest largest pumpkin or squash.”
There is a bonus cash prize to be awarded to the pumpkin or squash to break last year’s Oley Fair Heaviest Pumpkin Record of 1,056 pounds – there will be only one cash award to the heaviest overall by weight in either division.
Participants must bring their entries on Wednesday, Sept. 16, between 5 p.m. and 6:20. Weigh off begins at 6:30 p.m. Entries cannot be removed until Sunday so fair attendees will have a chance to check them out for the entirety of the fair.
Participants must be Oley area residents. Youth participants must be 15 years old or younger, and “actively involved in the raising of the pumpkin entry,” according the fair guide.
Who do you think will have the biggest pumpkin this year? Be sure to stop by the pumpkin patch to find out.
