Homecoming Weekend is upon us. There are many events starting Friday evening through Saturday that the entire family will enjoy.

The weekend begins with the Homecoming Parade which starts from the high school student parking lot at 5:30 p.m. Due to construction issues, the parade will follow a new route this year. It begins, as usual, on Richmond Street. The parade will then turn right on Greenway Street. It will go three blocks and turn left on Forest Street. After two blocks the parade will turn left on Vine Street, go one block and turn right on Maple. It will then turn left on Arch Street and proceed to Richmond Street where it will turn left. The parade will end at the 5/6 entrance to the Middle School. The parade is again being organized by Student Council and will feature the Fleetwood Area High School Marching Band, the Homecoming Court, fire trucks from many local communities, and many school and community groups.

Immediately after the parade, everyone is invited to the Recreation Board’s Homecoming Festival and Bonfire in Fleetwood Park. In addition to lots of food, there will be free hayrides, moon bounce, games, amusement rides, fundraisers by school and community groups, and a huge bonfire led by Fleetwood area cheerleaders of all ages. The Homecoming Court will also be introduced.

Saturday begins with a ‘Cruz in’ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fleetwood Park. This is sponsored by CeGees and the Fleetwood Recreation Board. The event will include music, and food will be available. Admission is free for spectators although a donation to the Fleetwood Rec Board will be required to park in the cruise area.

Homecoming athletic games this year begin with our boys’ soccer team which plays Oley Valley. The junior varsity game begins at 2:00 p.m. followed by the varsity game at approximately 3:15 p.m. The day concludes with the varsity football game at 7 p.m. Half time will feature the marching band, introduction of the homecoming court and announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen.

Come out and enjoy this wonderful community event. The school district works in conjunction with the Fleetwood Recreation Board to plan and host these events. Our thanks to the many adult and student volunteers whose hard work make this weekend possible.
