Three tractor trailer trucks were engulfed in flames as the result of a four commercial vehicle crash on Interstate 78 in Upper Bern Township Sept. 29.

State Police reported that at 12:15 p.m., traffic was temporarily stopped for construction being conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on I-78 westbound at mile marker 22.3. The driver of a tractor trailer truck failed to stop in time and caused a four tractor trailer truck crash, resulting in three of the trucks being engulfed in flames.

All westbound and eastbound lanes were closed due to the fire and debris with detours immediately set in place using Old Route 22.

Two of the truck drivers were transported to Reading Hospital for injuries and two sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Police report that the manner of the crash is still under investigation.
