Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Berks County invites you to attend their upcoming informational sessions to learn how CASA makes a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children and how you can volunteer to lift up a voice of a child. A CASA is a trained community member, appointed by a judge, to represent the best interest of a child in court. Volunteer advocates get to know the child and the situation by researching the current and background facts of the case, and in talking with the child and parties. They use this information to make recommendations to the judges.

The impact that volunteer advocates make on children in foster care is substantial. Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to find a safe and permanent home, spend less time in foster care, do better in school and receive more services while in the foster care system. If you want to make a child’s voice heard, the first step is attending one of our informational sessions on one of the following dates:

* Wednesday, Oct. 28, 6 to 7 p.m.

* Thursday, Nov. 12, 12 to 1 p.m.

* Tuesday, Nov. 17, 6 to 7 p.m.

* Wednesday, Dec. 9, 6 to 7 p.m.

The informational sessions will be hosted at West Lawn/Wyomissing Hills Library, 101 Woodside Ave., West Lawn in one of their private meeting rooms called Ann’s Room. There is a parking lot diagonal from the library at the corner of Woodside Ave. and Penn Ave. that you will be able to use.

The sessions are free and open to the public. RSVP is required due to limited seating. We know how important your time is and our program will not exceed 60 minutes. To reserve your seat, contact Ashley Frank by calling 610-301-8634 or email Ashley@CASABerks.org.
