Hearts & Hugs of Hope is partnering with The Heritage Restaurant in Morgantown every Monday night in October to help raise funds for breast cancer.

With a certain donation amount, you will receive a dozen wings. There will be free giveaways throughout the night.

Hearts & Hugs of Hope is a local nonprofit organization that was started three years ago by a group of Nurses and Nurses Aides from Tel Hai Retirement.

They have helped many local people in our community. They donated 30 Cancer Comfort bags to Lancaster General Health Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Jan Creitz, President of Hearts & Hugs of Hope, stated each bag contains warm pajamas, a cozy blanket, lip balm, hypo-allergenic oils and lotions for the skin, along with hard candies and warm fuzzy socks.

Their normal way of helping is not to give money, but rather to provide and pay for things that are needed. Each individual has unique needs; some of the things they have done include paying rent and utilities, providing gas cards for treatment visits, purchasing special bras for breast cancer patients and buying and wrapping Christmas gifts for their children.

In May of this year, Hearts & Hugs of Hope partnered with Tel Hai Retirement for a Pajama Drive. Jan Creitz said that the residents and employees provided pajamas for men and women, and was overwhelmed with the outpouring of support.

Hearts & Hugs of Hope provides support in Berks, Lancaster and Chester counties. Their mission statement says it all: Provides spiritual, emotional and physical support to cancer patients and survivors.

“Between my husband and I, we have lost so many family and friends to cancer,” said Sue Liskey, of Honeybrook. “Anytime there is a cancer fund raiser, we are always happy to give, hoping that someday there will be a cure.”

Ken Morris from Elverson said, “It takes a toll not only on the cancer fighter but also the family. Any additional help is always deeply appreciated from the family. It’s the little support that helps, like bringing over a casserole, running to the store for a few things or taking the children to their school functions. We were very thankful for all the help we received.”

There needs to be a cure for cancer,” said Commander Roger Jacobs, Morgantown American Legion. “I hate seeing my friends and family go through this horrible disease. One of our members was surprised to receive a Hearts & Hug of Hope donation from the hospital. She was so excited telling everyone at the hospital that she knows the girls in this organization. I’m very proud of our members being part of Hearts & Hugs of Hope. It is a wonderful organization that helps our community.”
