A Berks County man has launched a winter coat drive to help underprivileged children in Philadelphia.

Gary Buck is now collected new or gently used coats and winter gear (hats and gloves) for elementary-aged schoolchildren. He invites community members to drop off donations at his RE/MAX Synergy office in Douglassville. He is also willing to pick up the coats directly from homes. If interested, send him a message at <garymbuck@gmail.com>.

“You can leave them in a bag on your door step,” he says, eager to do whatever he can.

The collection runs until Wednesday, Oct. 21. Donations will then be dropped off at Philadelphia School District’s Alexander K. McClure Elementary School located in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia.

Buck attended the school years ago as a child, he still visits the area and the school – helping as much as he can.

“There was a need for coats last year,” Buck explained, so he decided to address the need this year.

To help promote his cause, Buck announced the collection on Facebook and has already begun receiving donations.

“A gift of warmth to battle this upcoming winter would be greatly appreciated by the children, their families and by the principal Mrs [Sharon] Marino,” Buck wrote in the Facebook post.

Coats, hats and gloves can be dropped off or sent to Gary Buck’s office in the Redner Shopping Center, 180 Old Swede Road in Douglassville.
