The Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce invites registration for its October Breakfast Program. On Friday, Oct. 16, at Moselem Springs Golf Club, 684 Eagle Road, Fleetwood, Mike Kistler, Brandywine Heights Area School District; Tom Miller, Kutztown Area School District; and Chris Spohn, Hamburg Area School District will present Internships: Partnering with Businesses to Mutually Benefit Employers and Students. East Penn Manufacturing is the program sponsor.

The Chamber, via its Business & Education Committee, chaired by Kathy Metrick, Superintendent, KASD, assisted in soliciting businesses as potential 2015-16 internship hosts for junior or senior high school students. The internship experience will count as an elective class for students during the regular school day. One of the many benefits is exposing students to possible future career opportunities in the area. Practicing workplace skills is another one.

Following the keynote presentation on internships, Kathy Metrick will conduct a student recognition program. The program, held four times a year, will recognize five at-risk students who have overcome a challenge to become successful in school or in life. Students represent each of five regional school districts, including Kutztown, Brandywine Heights, Fleetwood, Hamburg and Oley Valley.

Ongoing program support comes from the Kutztown University Foundation, which sponsors an award for each student, and Kutztown University, which sponsors breakfast for each student and a parent or guest.

Doors open at 7:30 a.m. at Moselem Springs Golf Club for a catered breakfast, scheduled program and networking. Advanced reservations are preferred. For non-members and those who do not make advanced reservations, admission will be collected at the door. Contact the Chamber for prices.

A facilitated networking lunch known as Making Connections will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Cristina’s, 500 Hoch Road, Fleetwood. Registration is underway, and seating is limited.

Secure online payment processing is available for both chamber programs at www.northeastberkschamber.com.
