The Thrivent Members and members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hamburg sponsored a stand at the recent Hamburg-er Festival in Hamburg. Rather than serve hamburgers, the group sold waffle and ice cream and ice cream sundaes with a choice of strawberry or peach topping.

Each year, the proceeds from the event are given to the local Hamburg Fire Company No. 1, and this year, the organization was able to give the fire company a donation of $1,000 to be used where needed.

During the year, other events are held, such as food stands at Sam’s Club in Reading. Money raised from these events is used to support the following Hamburg organizations: The Food Pantry, the Hamburg Ambulance, the Salvation Army, the Hamburg Library and St. John’s Church, as needs arise.
