Jeff and Raine Fussner recently traveled to Austria for the 1/2 Ironman world championships. After Jeff qualified for the world championships at the Princeton 1/2 Ironman in 2014, the couple planned their trip for August 2015. After a year of training, with many road miles, swims at the quarry, hours on the spin bike and several hundred gels and protein bars consumed, the two were ready for their races in Austria.

Unfortunately, three weeks prior to the event, Raine was hit by a vehicle on a training bike ride in OBX.

With the help of some fellow triathletes, she was able to have surgery to repair a shattered collarbone and leave for Austria a few days later. Although Raine was unable to compete, she was able to cheer on hubby Jeff. He completed an extremely challenging course in more than 90 degree weather, swimming in beautiful Lake Zell Am See and riding hills in the Alps. Family and friends are extremely proud of Jeff’s accomplishments. Austria is a beautiful country, with many amazing sights and friendly people.
