The Montgomery County Teen Parent Task Force, in collaboration with Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), will host its 11th annual Straight Talk program on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 6:30-9 p.m.

The program will be held in the Science Center Theater at MCCC’s Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, with simulcast to South Hall room 221 at MCCC’s West Campus, 101 College Drive, Pottstown.

The program is free and is open to the public. For information and to register, call 484-808-7839. Parents, educators, social service workers, health professionals and interested community members are encouraged to attend. Participants are asked to bring donations of non-perishable breakfast, lunch or snack items to support MCCC’s “Stock Up For Success” food pantry, which assists students in need.

The topic of the Oct. 21 Straight Talk program is “The Boy Code – Helping Our Boys Become Healthy & Happy Adults.”

Lisa Fraser, associate director of education for Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania, will provide the keynote address.

Participants will learn about the rules of the “boy code,” their effect on our culture, and how to break the code in order to support healthy self-esteem and positive social expectations for today’s male youth. According to experts, boys are twice as likely to drop out of school as girls, and boys are four times more likely to be expelled. From the time they are school aged, boys receive messages that push them to disconnect from their emotions and friendships and to use violence as a means to solve problems.
