“Stunning dish garden!” said judges of this creation by TVGC member Gerallyn Duke who depicted “Bryce Canyon” in her choice of live blooming and non-blooming succulent plants and stones artistically arranged in desert soil. Her hypertufa container for this winning arrangement was handmade at a recent TVGC workshop.

TVGC member Susan Aggarwal captured both a First Place and the Award of Merit with her Lycoris radiata or “Red Spider Lily,” a cut stem grown from a bulb in a sunny, protected spot in her home garden. Her eye-popping cut specimen is presented at its peak in bloom color and form.

Members of Twin Valleys Garden Club won numerous awards at the National Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, District I, Standard Flower Show held recently at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square. They captured eight First Places, six Second Places, 6 Third Places and two Honorable Mentions in the prestigious biennial show entitled “Exploring America” this year.

Exhibits included artistic floral arrangements, horticulture specimens and photographs displayed to their best advantage in the beautiful Longwood Conservatory. The show was sponsored by The Country Gardeners, Four Seasons Garden Club of Kennett Square, Gardens Class of the Women’s Community Club of Uwchlan, and the Spade and Trowel Club and estimates were that over 10,000 people visited.

TVGC winners included Susan Aggarwal, Evie Baird and Carol Heilner, each winning two 1st Place honors. Rosemary Heth, Jayne Chadsey and Lisa Hevner were recognized with 1st Places among other awards. Other Twin Valleys GC winners included Gerallyn Duke, Pat Howse, Debbie Kuhn, Trish St. Georges, Dot Alloway and Eva-Maria Frank.

Twin Valleys GC began preparing for participation early this year. Over months most members nurtured the plants they hoped to enter in the show at their peak. Artistic arrangement designs were planned and fine tuned as the show date approached and excitement built.

Located in northern Chester County since 1927, TVGC is one of the area’s oldest garden clubs. Members live in Pickering and Great Valleys and surrounding communities. Monthly meetings include educational gardening programs and hands-on workshops.

The club will decorate for the holidays at the Coatesville VA Hospital in December. Members will exhibit their seed and pod tree-trimming “critters” at a meeting later this fall. Visitors are welcomed.
