The Kutztown Rotary Club honored seniors Sara Luckenbill and Kaitlin Buchanan as November students of the month in ceremonies at the Kutztown Tavern November 4.

Each month during the school year, Kutztown Rotary honors a senior from Brandywine Heights and Kutztown Area School Districts based on their accomplishments in academics, school participation and community contributions upon recommendation of their guidance counselors.

Sara Luckenbill, of Kutztown Area High School, is the daughter of Cindy and Wayne Luckenbill. She played varsity volleyball for four years, during which she served as team captain for both junior varsity and senior varsity teams. She participated in Science Olympiad and went to state finals twice, placing in the competition in eleventh grade. She also participated in 4-H Sewing as President and Advisor’s Assistant, Superintendent Student Advisory Committee, Student Council, Chorus, Lab Aid and Outdoors Club.

In the community, she is a 10-year member of the girl scouts, in which she was awarded two Senior Journey Awards and served as Younger Troop Assistant. She served as a Penn State Health St. Joseph’s volunteer in transport and foot patrol. At Frieden’s Lutheran Church, she was a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School assistant and participated in the Potato Project and Habitat for Humanity. She assisted in Relay for Life, March of Dimes, Friend Inc. food pantry and served as Leo Club vice president.

During the summer and school year, Luckinbill works at Dietrich Meats.

Kaitlin Buchanan is the daughter of John and Charlotte Henschel, of Boyertown. She has acted in a school play, participated in Drama Club, County Chorus, Women’s Ensemble and Bible Club, for which she served as secretary as well as vice president. She attended Berks Career and Technology Center, where she studied cosmetology, then early childhood education.

Buchanan has assisted with the Sunday school and is a leader in training, a nursery worker, vacation bible school helper, volunteered with the Angel Tree Ministry delivering gifts, helped paint the Hope Rescue Mission, has assisted with the Wednesday children’s program and is in the church choir. She is a Special Music Volunteer at Friedens Lutheran Church as an early childhood education student and a singing volunteer at Boyertown Festival of the Trees.

To support her own expenses, she does occasional babysitting and is a camp counselor at Victory Valley Camp.
