Brandywine Heights High School hosted it’s first of many Thanksgiving Senior Citizen Luncheons on Nov. 18.

The luncheon was held during the school day from 1:15 to 3 p.m. and orchestrated through the collaborative efforts of staff, faculty and students.

The event commenced as a result of suggestions that stemmed from the student body who wanted to do something to give back to the community. Student Council and Key Club, clubs that dedicate their energy to serving the community, were asked to spearhead this initiative, which culminated in a Thanksgiving luncheon. The celebration consisted of a full Thanksgiving feast made in-house and served to the senior community by BHHS students, musical entertainment performed by the members of the jazz and choir ensembles, and party favors and decorations crafted by the student body.

Collaborative efforts like this help to strengthen a community. They help bridge generation gaps and foster empathy as well as positive exchanges between two very different generations. They provide opportunities for disparate people to relate to one another and build foundations to ensure that the world is a better place for future generations. These are initiatives that Brandywine Heights Area School District continues to subscribe to in order to create a unified front.
