More than 70 Berks County nonprofit organizations are collaborating on the global Giving Tuesday social media campaign that is underway to encourage charitable donations one week from today on Dec. 1.

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday applauds those who set aside some time and money for charity. “Berks County’s nonprofits deserve and need our support, especially this year when they’ve been impacted by the state’s failure to adopt a budget,” said Kevin K. Murphy, president of Berks County Community Foundation, which organized the local effort.

In addition to the #GivingTuesdayBerks social media campaign, Berks organizations are holding 30 separate events on Dec. 1, beginning with a live broadcast on 830 AM WEEU’s “Feedback” program with “Mighty Mike” Faust from 9 a.m. to noon.

Ways to donate and local events around the county where you can “pop in” throughout the day can be found at GivingTuesdayBerks.com. There is no cost to attend most of the events, which range from local theater groups caroling in downtown Reading to the Colebrookdale Railroad offering a sneak peek at the Edwardian splendor of its railroad cars.
