PHOENIXVILLE >> An early morning fire in Phoenxville left one home severely damaged Wednesday.

Fire crews responded to a call at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday for a house fire at 891 Oxford Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found that the home was experiencing a fire in the kitchen area and were able to quickly get the flames under control.

One man, whom authorities have declined to identify, was inside the home at the time of the fire and managed to escape safely on his own before fire crews arrived. He is reportedly staying with family, according to Phoenixville fire officials.

No injuries were reported in the blaze.

Phoenixville Fire Department was first to arrive on the scene and told The Mercury Wednesday that they were able to contain the fire in just about 40 minutes. Though it was doused quickly, fire officials said the combined damage to both the structure and belongings totaled about $175,000 and that the home is currently uninhabitable.

Oxford Avenue remained closed to traffic as authorities worked at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Phoenixville Fire Marshall.

Responding to the scene, along with Phoenixville Fire Department were Valley Forge Fire Company, Kimberton Fire Company, Black Rock Fire Company, Spring City Fire Department, Liberty Fire Company, Upper Providence Fire Department and Berwyn Fire Department. The American Red Cross was also on the scene to offer assistance to the homeowner.
