Fleetwood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1793 planned a sleepover to finish their Brownie Quest Journey and a community service project for KidsPeace.

As a part of their sleepover, the girls brought in all the items they collected for their first night bags that they are donating to KidsPeace. The girls gathered some draw string bags and filled them with items that a child might use on their first night in foster care. The bags included pajamas, water bottles, snacks, a book or toy, a stuffed animal – anything a child might be comforted with when they need to leave their home and go into foster care quickly. The girls created personalized cards to go in each bag for each child that might receive one.

The girls also learned how to connect with themselves, each other, their friends and family and their community and their world. The girls created a necklace that represented the smallest to the biggest so the girls could learn to compare themselves, their friends, their fellow scouts, their community and their world on a level that was easier for the girls to understand.

The third grade girls separated into small groups to do projects and connect with each other better. The girls paid very nice compliments to each other by writing a compliment on the back of a hand mirror for each girl in the troop and when they got to their own mirror, they decorated it in a way that fit them best with embellishments and markers. This was a reminder to them that what they see in the mirror is what they are putting out into the world. They can look at the backs of their mirrors to see the compliments and reflect on those as something that they reflect to others each and every day.

There was a surprise visit from Mrs. Claus. She came in the evening and shared a story with the girls about how she went from being a little girl to being Mrs. Claus, Santa’s wife. She commended the girls on all their hard work with the KidsPeace Service Project and the girls showed her some completed first night bags and the contents. Mrs. Claus gave each girl a special coin that was engraved with “I caught you doing good.”
