The Kutztown Rotary Club honored Phillip Donner, of Kutztown Area High School, and Erica Winegardner, of Brandywine Heights High School, as students of the month in ceremonies held at the Kutztown Tavern on Jan. 6.

The award is presented to a senior from each of the schools once a month during the school year based on recommendations from their guidance counselors. The counselors, in turn, recommend on the basis of accomplishments in academics, school participation and community contribution.

Erica Winegardner is the daughter of Kevin and Karen Winegardner, of Fleetwood. At Brandywine Heights High School, she was inducted into the National Honor Society; was captain of the girls soccer team, where she qualified for All-Division Keeper; was captain of the girls’ basketball team; and participated in track. She is involved in student council, the art club, Future Business Leaders of America (for which she was a state qualifier for banking and financial systems honors) and has been on mission trips with Christ Mertz Lutheran Church.

Phillip Donner is the son of William Donner and Stephanie Schaeffer, of Kutztown. He is president of the National Honor Society at Kutztown Area High School as well as captain of the football and wrestling teams. He is on the Council on Chemical Abuse, an all-star senior, a volunteer at the Jacobsburg Historical Society, member of Kutztown Strong and an Eagle Scout. Last year, he did a student internship with East Penn Manufacturing.
