A major winter storm will affect the Berks County area from Friday night into Sunday. A winter storm watch remains in effect from Friday evening through Sunday morning.

Expected conditions throughout the county include:

* Heavy snow.* Snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches possible with the highest amounts south.

* Snow is expected to overspread the area from south to north Friday evening, primarily after the evening commute. It could be heavy at times before tapering off Sunday morning.

* Winds will be from the northeast 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

* Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s.

* The snow is expected to be heavy and wet. Shoveling may be problematic for those with physical ailments. Snow may cling to wires and trees which could cause numerous power outages. Roads will become impassable due to increasing snow accumulation during the event.

Municipalities, boroughs and townships under a snow emergency:

EXETER: A snow emergency has been issued for Exeter Township from Friday 1/22 at 7 p.m. until Monday 1/25 at 12 a.m. Parking is prohibited on any snow emergency route while in effect.

The Borough of Birdsboro has declared a snow emergency effective 7 p.m. today until further notice. We are directing all resident that have vehicles parked along snow emergency routes to remove them, you will receive a ticket.

We are also asking if you don’t have to venture out to please stay off the roads. Please allow our road crew to clear the roads as quickly as they can.
