The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5 announced that the PA 662/Moselem Springs Road Bridge over Maiden Creek in Perry Township, Berks County will be replaced. The structure is also known as the Lake Ontelaunee Bridge.

The project involves replacing the existing four-span concrete T-beam bridge with a new two-span prestressed concrete bulb T-beam bridge. The project also includes constructing a new retaining wall, reconstructing the roadway approaches and other miscellaneous construction.

Beginning Jan. 26, temporary traffic signals will be activated at the bridge to control an alternating single lane of traffic for the duration of construction.

J. D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, is the general contractor on the $5,270,675 project. Work is scheduled to be completed in May 2017.

The PA 662/Moselem Springs Road (Lake Ontelaunee) Bridge was originally constructed in 1932. It is 179 feet long and 28 feet wide. The new bridge will be 281 feet long and 35 feet 4 inches wide. This section of PA 662 has average daily traffic volume of 3,859 vehicles.

Motorists are reminded to be alert for slow moving construction vehicles, obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.
