For the third year in a row, Chestnut Knoll Personal Care and Memory Care earned a trophy for being the Top Earning Memory Walk Team at the 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Chestnut Knoll participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Kutztown University on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2015 and ended the year with a grand total of $19,186.

As a team, they hosted various events throughout the year to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, including a “Making Memories to Save Memories” Beef and Beer fundraiser; a Chicken and Pork BBQ sale; a fundraiser at Doc Watson’s Irish Pub; and Paint Night events. In addition, they received memorial donations, and donations from team members who participated in the Walk.

“Not only are we the top team for the Berks-Lehigh walk, but we are in the top five teams for the entire Delaware Valley Chapter,” said Shawn Barndt, executive director. “This is a huge accomplishment for a small, single-site organization like Chestnut Knoll. We do all of our fundraising through grassroots efforts, yet are able to compete with the larger corporations, thanks to the tremendous community support we receive.”

The 2016 Walk will be held in October in Berks County. Upcoming fundraising events include the Annual Chestnut Knoll Car show in August, where donations are accepted; Chicken BBQ dinner sales in September; Moonlight Memories Beef and Beer in October; friends and family painting party in November; and a fundraiser at Doc Watson’s in December.

“Our goal is to raise as much as we can and continue our longstanding history of being the top team for the Berks-Lehigh Walk,” said Barndt. “Our grand total is approximately $154,000 given to the Alzheimer’s Association, and we couldn’t have done that without the support of our friends, family, residents, and Boyertown community.”

Community members who wish to participate and walk with the 2016 Chestnut Knoll team can register by contacting Jennelle Jamison at Chestnut Knoll, or by going to the Alzheimer’s Association website and looking up the Chestnut Knoll team.

Chestnut Knoll continues to be a leader in care for seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia. They have worked closely with the Alzheimer’s Association for many years and provide great service to those in need of special assistance in Memory Care.
