Topton man taken into custody for robbing Topton Dollar General with a kitchen knife

A man wielding a kitchen knife robbed the Dollar General Store in Topton on Jan. 21.

Two Berks County Crime Alert tips on Jan. 22 provided information on the robbery suspect, Topton resident Kevin Mazur, who had an active arrest warrant for a state parole violation. Mazur has been taken into police custody.

According to State Police Reading, a white man entered the Dollar General Store, 330 W. Weiss St., Topton, at about 9:31 p.m. He remained in the store, acting as if he was shopping, until all other customers left the store. At about 9:55 p.m., the man came around the counter, displayed a large kitchen knife, and asked for all of the cash in the register. He then fled on foot towards Main Street.

Police described the robber as being about 6 feet tall with a thin building and wearing thin metal framed glasses and green Philadelphia Eagles knit cap, brown plaid jacket with grey hoodie, blue jeans and black DC sneakers.

On Jan. 22 at about 3:30 p.m., two Berks County Crime Alert tips were obtained providing information on the person involved in the robbery. Both rips revealed the name of Mazur who had an active arrest warrant for a Pa State Parole Violation, according to an updated police report.

Police surveillance was established in the area of North Main Street in Topton where Mazur resides. He was taken into custody and transported to State Police Reading for questioning. A search performed at his residence revealed clothing matching the description of those worn during the robbery, according to state police.

Mazur was transported to Berks County Processing for arraignment.
