From now through April 15, applications for Camp Cadet of Lancaster, a unique summer camp experience free to Lancaster County boys and girls ages 11 through 13, are being accepted online at www.campcadetoflancastercounty.com. The camp will be held Aug. 14 to 20, at Camp Ware, in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania.

The concept of Camp Cadet was the unique vision of a single Pennsylvania State Trooper in 1970 as a way to promote good relations between police and young people. The first Camp Cadet began in Butler. Today, that same unique vision is thriving in 26 different Camp Cadet programs throughout the Commonwealth including a Commissioner’s Honor Camp. Although bearing many similarities, each program is independently operated and funded.

In 1971, we proudly began our Camp Cadet program here in Lancaster and it continues today. Boys and girls ages 11 to 13 residing within Lancaster County can experience a variety of law enforcement activities while interacting with professionals who serve their communities during this week long overnight camp. Our Cadets live in an atmosphere modeled after the Pennsylvania State Police Academy where emphasis is placed on improving self-discipline, confidence and self-esteem. During their action-packed week long camp, Cadets learn about teamwork, the benefits of making good decisions, respect for authority and respect for others. Cadets are challenged to work hard from start to finish in this highly structured program while also enjoying plenty of fun activities associated with a traditional summer camp. At the conclusion of camp, Cadets participate in a military style graduation ceremony to honor their accomplishments.

Troopers and other specially selected law enforcement professionals, both male and female, serve as counselors. Our staff graciously donates their off-duty time allowing them to remain on-site for the entire week to create and share in this unique and thrilling experience.
