Governor Mifflin Superintendent Steve Gerhard, Ed.D. will offer a look into the future of the school district during the first annual State of the District address on Thursday, Jan. 28. No RSVP is required and all are welcome to attend.
The first of what will become an annual event is intended to gauge district performance based on feedback gathered by Gerhard during his first six months on the job. The presentation will examine the district’s past, present, and future, with emphasis on the district’s direction relative to academic achievement, college and career preparedness, school safety, and stewardship.
The State of the District is also part of Gerhard’s year-long entry plan. He is using this first year to learn from the various stakeholders in the district through interviews and surveys. His report will provide a current status of that process while also presenting constituents with the first look at strategies and action items for the coming years.
“When I was first hired, many people asked about my vision for the district, but it’s not about my vision alone. That’s why I felt it was so important that I spend much of my time up to this point listening and seeking to understand the current successes and challenges we’re facing,” Gerhard said. “We are a community center. Three quarters of our tax-paying residents have no students in our schools. So as we look to the future, I want to continue to extend our outreach to all of our constituents, welcoming them to our campus and moving forward with a common set of goals to educate our students to the best of our ability and strengthen the future of our community as a whole.”
Several Governor Mifflin students will also share the spotlight. The evening will feature performances by Governor Mifflin music ensembles, a sneak preview of this year’s Spring Swing musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and interviews with Governor Mifflin students.
The State of the District will take place in the Governor Mifflin High School auditorium at 7:00 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for Jan. 25, but has been postponed to due severe weather clean up.
