The NAHB Student Chapters program recognized the HBA of Berks County, Outstanding Occupational Committee Member(s) at an award ceremony held at the 2016 NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas in January.

More than 100,000 builders, remodelers, students, faculty members and suppliers packed the aisles at the 2016 International Builders’ Show, Design & Construction Week.

The Outstanding Occupational Advisory Committee Member Award applications (who are NAHB members) are judged based on mentoring students, assisting with curriculum reviews making sure it is relevant to industry standards, planning guest speaker events, organizing field trips and informing the school about the knowledge and skills employers are looking for in the community.

“Congratulations to the Berks Career and Technology Center and the HBA of Berks County,” said Jerry Howard, CEO of NAHB. “The members at the HBA of Berks County demonstrate a dedication to education in the construction trades and helping students achieve their very best.”

All students are enrolled in carpentry, electrical, painting and decorating occupations and are involved and connected with local members of the HBA of Berks County.

This NAHB student chapter has a diverse student body, coming to the Berks Career and Technology Center from 16 separate school districts in the county, from rural to city living, but all have a common interest in the building trades.
