On Jan. 8 at 12:13 p.m. State Police in Reading stopped a vehicle on Route 12 at Carbon Street for expired registration.

The passenger in the vehicle, Devonte Lamarr Hines, 24, was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, heroin and drug paraphernalia. Hines does not have a license to carry.

He was charged with theft of lost, mislaid property, firearms not to be carried without a license and possession of heroin and paraphernalia.

One car crash on Memorial Highway

On Jan. 23, State Police were called to respond to a one vehicle incident on Memorial Highway in Ruscombmanor Township. The accident occurred at 6:43 a.m.

The driver, Samuel Haas, 57, of Temple, was traveling south on Route 662 and was having difficulty seeing the road in the dark with blowing snow. Haas’s vehicle drifted to the right, driving onto the west berm of the road. The vehicle continued to drift off the roadway and drove down an approximate three-foot embankment into an open field. The vehicle then rolled onto its right passenger side and came to final rest facing south approximately 15 feet west of the road.

Haas was uninjured. Vince’s Towing and Berks Mont towing removed the vehicle from the scene.

Three car collision on Bernville Road

On Jan. 21 at approximately 6:33 a.m., State Police responded to a three vehicle collision that occurred on Bernville Road in Penn Township.

Driver Daniel Levengood, 31, of Reading, was traveling north on Route 183 and stopped in the roadway to turn left onto Route 3033. Driver Richard Singleton III, 33, of Chester, was traveling north behind Levengood. Driver Louise Kiehl, 57, of Bernville, was traveling south on Route 183. Singleton failed to see Levengood stop and applied the brakes. He was unable to stop and veered to the left to avoid hitting Levengood.

Singleton struck Levengood’s vehicle in the northbound lane of Route 183 and then crossed over the double yellow lines into the southbound lane of the highway, striking Kiehl’s vehicle.

There were no injuries in this crash. Singleton was cited and will now have to answer to a summary charge of driving vehicle at a safe speed. Bernville Fire Company and Mt. Penn Fire Company assisted at the scene. Jonathans and V&M Towing removed the vehicles from the scene.

Two car crash on Fleetwood Lyons Road

State Police have reported a two car collision that occurred on Jan. 14 at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Fleetwood Lyons Road in Richmond Township.

The crash occurred as two drivers were both traveling west on the road near Deka Road. Driver Valerie Rutherford, 33, of Kutztown, stopped in the roadway, yielding the eastbound traffic and intending to turn left onto Deka Road. As Rutherford was yielding to traffic and waiting to turn, driver Joshua Colon, 29, of Allentown, struck the vehicle of Rutherford in the rear bumper.

Colon’s vehicle sustained moderate body and mechanical damage to the front end, and Rutherford’s vehicle sustained heavy damage to the entire rear of the vehicle. Both vehicles came to a final rest in the westbound lane.

Colon was complaining of head and neck injuries and was transported to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital by Fleetwood EMS. The other driver and passenger involved in the accident were not complaining of any injuries.
