NORRISTOWN >> A Chester County man has been sentenced to jail time for trafficking marijuana in Montgomery County.

Michael D. Green, 50, of the first block of Violet Drive, Honey Brook, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to one to 23 months in the county jail, to be followed by three years’ probation, after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver marijuana in connection with a May 2015 incident in Salford. The sentence was imposed by Judge Steven T. O’Neill.

An investigation of Green began on May 14 when county narcotics investigators received a tip from a confidential informant that Green was going to be delivering marijuana “to several locations in Montgomery County,” according to the criminal complaint filed by county detectives. The informant provided authorities with a description of Green’s vehicle as well as the address of one of the delivery locations, a residence along Ridge Road in Salford, according to court papers.

Armed with the information, county detectives established surveillance in the area of Ridge Road and observed Green’s vehicle in the driveway of a Ridge Road residence. Detectives observed Green, carrying a white duffle bag, leave the residence and enter his vehicle, according to court papers.

Detectives subsequently followed Green’s vehicle from Salford to Douglass (Mont.) Township, with the assistance of police from New Hanover and Douglass (Mont.), according to the arrest affidavit. A Douglass (Mont.) officer stopped Green’s vehicle on Hoffmansville Road, court papers indicate.

Green consented to a search of his vehicle, detectives said.

“During the subsequent search of Green’s vehicle several large, plastic bags, containing a green plant matter suspected to be marijuana, were recovered,” detectives wrote in the arrest affidavit. “The plastic bags contained a combined total of approximately 5-10 pounds of suspected marijuana.”

A field test of the green plant matter resulted in a positive reaction for marijuana, police said.

“In addition to the suspected marijuana, a large amount of U.S. currency was found. Green estimated he had $59,000 in his car,” detectives alleged.

The investigation determined that Green delivered a quarter-pound of marijuana to the Ridge Road resident and arranged the pot delivery using a cellular phone, according to the criminal complaint.
