Kutztown University Council of Trustees approves amended budget of $123.1 million

The Kutztown University Council of Trustees approved an amended Educational & General Fund budget of $123.1 million for the institution for the 2015-16 fiscal year.

The action was one of six approved by the Council at its Jan. 28 board meeting.

The amended $123.1 million budget includes funding for eight areas including instruction, research and public service, academic support, student aid and plant operations and maintenance. The amendment, which includes an increase of $777,278 in reserved funding, comes after the awarding of $29.6 million in state appropriation money to KU earlier this month.

In other business, the KU Council of Trustees approved new internship agreements for KU students with Fitness by Ina, Kutztown; Muhlenberg College Athletic Department, Allentown; Person Directed Supports Inc., Allentown; School District of Lancaster, Lancaster; Surge Volleyball Club, Fleetwood; USA Rugby, Boulder, Co.; and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Wilkes-Barre.

Council also approved a College of Education Student Teaching Agreement with Chester County Intermediate Unit #24, Downingtown and Lake and Peninsula School District, King Salmon, Ak.

In other news, council approved Consent Agenda items consisting of select purchases and contracts under $100,000 and approved the Summer Study Abroad Program, including the History of the Holocaust course in Austria and Germany and two advanced level Spanish courses at the University of Valladolid in Valladolid, Spain.

Council acknowledged and thanked the men and women who worked tirelessly to dig KU out of the record snowfall which fell during Winter Storm Jonas Jan. 22 and 23.

The KU Council of Trustees next public board meeting is scheduled for March 3, at 3 p.m. in Stratton Administration Center, room 301.
